ties that bind...

music soothes the soul... lyrics light it on fire.
-v. gibbs

ever since i was a little girl music has filled our home.
it was not just the strum of the guitar or the beat of the drums that invited us to sing and dance
my dad has always told me to "listen to the lyrics"
always.
i remember him pulling them out of the record jackets,
then cd cases and now we just google them.
i can not sing. but i do anyway.
i can not play an instrument, though i wish i could.
i can dance! ha.
and i always read the lyrics.
listen to them.
contemplate them.
love them.

so this crazy thing happened-
the guitar santa brought has sparked lex not only to want to play, sing and dance to the music-
but to write her own lyrics.
no joke.
seconds after that magical morning she was quick to find piece of paper, a pen,
and started writing and strumming her un-tuned guitar.
here's to the song writers
here's to the lyrics
here's to you dad
here's to the ties that bind.
i'm lucky to have you
so is lex.

you're listening to:

Father and Daughter

If you leap awake
In the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second
You can't remember where you are
Just open your window
And follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain
Where we counted every falling star

I believe a light that shines on you
Will shine on you forever
And though I cant guarantee
There's nothing scary hiding under your bed
I'm gonna stand guard like a postcard
At the Golden Retriever
And never leave till I leave you
With a sweet dream in your bed

Chorus:
I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two wooo
There could never be a father who loved
His daughter more than I love you

Trust your intuition
It's just like goin fishin'
You cast your line and hope you get a bite
You don't need to waste your time
Worryin' about the market place
Trying to help the human race
Strugglin to survive its harshest hour
